It's Spring Check-up Time!

The climbing temperatures remind us that it’s Spring again. For many homeowners, it’s the time for cleaning and getting things ready for warm weather ahead. One of the things a homeowner can do before it gets hot is to have a Spring A/C checkup.

A Spring A/C checkup will improve your HVAC system’s performance, and may prevent little problems from becoming more significant problems later. After all, the HVAC is probably the most prominent working system in a home-- a little TLC can go a long way.

The Spring A/C checkup involves examining, testing, cleaning, and adjusting the HVAC system components. Here are some of the more essential processes:

Refrigerant

The refrigerant, charge it and check the system for pressure to find out if it’s leaking. Leaks can be problematic and should be addressed before the hot weather.

Electrical components

The electrical components run the fans, blower, condenser, and more, so they need to be secure and fully functional. After all, who wants their A/C to fail because of a loose wire or bad breaker?

Coils

Coils need to be clean and debris-free. They can be affected by a poorly fitting filter or a filter that was removed and not replaced. When coils become dirty, they can freeze up--which isn’t a good thing.

Condensate pump and drain pan

A condensate pump removes the condensation from the system and can become clogged during winter months when the cooling system isn’t in use. Cleaning or replacing the condensate pump should be done before it begins to leak.

The thermostat and airflow

The thermostat is an oft-abused piece of the HVAC system. Many people erroneously jack their thermostats to an extreme, trying to get it to heat or cool their home faster. But, the thermostat doesn’t control the speed of the delivery, only the final temperature.

We test your thermostat and airflow delivery, but, more importantly, we can replace it with a Smart unit when you’re ready to take charge of your heating and cooling system, both the costs and the level of comfort in the home.

Filter replacement

If the customer has a filter and would like us to replace it, we’d be happy to do so. If the current filter is inadequate or ill-fitting, we will advise the homeowner on the possible options.

Other items

We will tighten belts and connections, recommend replacing worn or damaged components, lubricate the fan motor, and perform a few other chores and tests as part of the Spring A/C checkup. Our goal is to have the system working as perfectly as possible for the duration of the hot weather.

Once the Spring A/C checkup is complete, the homeowner should diligently replace the filter every month during the summer season. Regular replacement will make the system work less hard. If it becomes apparent that the filter is becoming dirty before the end of the month, the homeowner should replace it sooner.
