What is New in HVAC Technology- Part 1

HVAC technologies are continually advancing, and provisions for high-tech solutions for HVAC system owners are made to improve the quality of life. In the next couple of blogs, we’re going to describe the new products available for homeowners and businesses.

Here are a few of the latest innovations in the HVAC market:

Movement Activated Air Conditioning

One of the latest introductions in the HVAC marketplace, these air conditioners are triggered by the movement of people in the defined area and turn on or adjust the thermostat accordingly. Designed to save on both utility and energy costs, these ACs are created using aluminum rods that act as sensors, attached to the ceiling. These ingenious air conditioners are already being found in commercial buildings and will be found in residential properties in no time. Known for reducing carbon emissions, we expect to see use of this technology proliferate.

 Ice-Powered Air Conditioning

Ice-powered air conditioners are a substantial step towards better technology and a greener environment. As the name suggests, these air conditioners use ice instead of a compressor to cool the refrigerant in the existing AC unit and keep the temperature down. At night, the system freezes water in large quantities (approx. 450 gallons) by using the refrigerant, which passes through copper coils that are surrounded by water. Ice made in the night is used the next day to cool down the temperature without the excessive power consumption and subsequent emissions.

3-D Printed Air Conditioners

3-D printing is changing the face of air conditioners with a widely used technology that has made its way to the HVAC industry.

3-D printing, as opposed to traditional manufacturing, allows producers to use additive manufacturing with the computer-aided program's help to create three-dimensional objects with raw materials.

In air conditioners, this technology will allow consumers to design their AC units, customizing them according to their tastes and preferences. Adding particular features and removing unnecessary options in one's air conditioner was a practice unimaginable, but is a reality now.

Traditionally, customers were stuck to choose from whatever was offered by the HVAC manufacturers. With this innovative technology, the creativity of the end-users could be easily incorporated in the air conditioners they bring to their homes.

Thermally-Driven Air Conditioners

Modern homes are cooled efficiently by air conditioning units running on electricity. Though effectual, these air conditioners fetch high consumption bills, especially in summers, when demand is high. An alternative to save on energy costs, thermally-driven air conditioners are being devised for regions with high temperatures.

These AC units use thermal energy to drive them and are supplemented with natural gas. Though not quite extensive, this technology will gain popularity in the coming years, considering the benefits it offers.

Smart homes

For those who love high-tech solutions, investing in smart technology is a delight. And with everything getting smarter, from phones to televisions and cars to security systems, having smart homes would be the next wise thing. Although lighting, heating, cooling, entertainment, etc. are already being monitored by phone apps and virtual buttons, this technology will continue to evolve in the future, allowing homeowners to easily maneuver their comfort levels.

In our next blog, we’ll share more of these exciting innovations. Stay tuned!
